Answer Set Programming

Answer set programming (ASP) is a programming methodology oriented towards combinatorial search problems. In such a problem, the goal is to find a solution among a large but finite number of possibilities. The idea of ASP came from research on artificial intelligence and computational logic. ASP is a form of declarative programming: an ASP program describes what is counted as a solution to the problem, but does not specify an algorithm for solving it. Search is performed by sophisticated software systems called answer set solvers. Combinatorial search problems often arise in science and technology, and ASP has found applications in diverse areas-in historical linguistic, in bioinformatics, in robotics, in space exploration, in oil and gas industry, and many others. The importance of this programming method was recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence in 2016, when AI Magazine published a special issue on answer set programming. The book introduces the reader to the theory and practice of ASP. It describes the input language of the answer set solver CLINGO, which was designed at the University of Potsdam in Germany and is used today by ASP programmers in many countries. It includes numerous examples of ASP programs and present the mathematical theory that ASP is based on. There are many exercises with complete solutions.

Sci-fi technological spy thriller. Milo Cambridge is a US scientist, PhD, astrophysicist with the United States intelligence community. As a trained USAF stealth fighter pilot and later NASA scientist, Milo is at some point indoctrinated into an ULTRA CLASSIFIED time travel program codenamed EDIS REVERIE. His first mission is to Mars, but it's not the Mars you know. Once you travel through the tunnel, when you exit, it's not the same universe and if you travel backward, it too is a different universe. Before being allowed to transit the various tunnels, Milo, along with the other trainees were required to complete SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape) training in Alaska and elsewhere. They were also required to know electrical and mechanical engineering, botany, agricultural science, chemistry, physics, biology etc., for exoplanetary ops. The students had to know everything there was to know about electronic instrumentation panel repair, microelectronics, circuit repair, molecular electronics (moletronics), nano-electronics, avionics, aerospace engineering, wiring, flight navigation, all manner of engineering, and so forth - all classified fields and sub-disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). After training and years down the road, Milo along with his H-Space reconnaissance team, Task Force Uniform 8 Xulu, set out to follow a secret pathway from Hanford Nuclear Reactor in Washington State to an exit point in Montauk, New York. Intel suggests that in a parallel universe of New York, a hacker is developing a software program that can decode information about parallel universes. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Rob Lee. Robot Brains: Circuits and Systems for Consciou...

Haikonen envisions autonomous robots that perceive and understand the world directly, acting in it in a natural human-like way without the need of programs and numerical representation of information. By developing higher-level cognitive functions through the power of artificial associative neuron architectures, the author approaches the issues of machine consciousness. Robot Brains expertly outlines a complete system approach to cognitive machines, offering practical design guidelines for the creation of non-numeric autonomous creative machines. It details topics such as component parts and realization principles, so that different pieces may be implemented in hardware or software. Real-world examples for designers and researchers are provided, including circuit and systems examples that few books on this topic give. In novel technical and practical detail, this book also considers: * the limitations and remedies of traditional neural associators in creating true machine cognition; * basic circuit assemblies cognitive neural architectures; * how motors can be interfaced with the associative neural system in order for fluent motion to be achieved without numeric computations; * memorization, imagination, planning and reasoning in the machine; * the concept of machine emotions for motivation and value systems; * an approach towards the use and understanding of natural language in robots. The methods presented in this book have important implications for computer vision, signal processing, speech recognition and other information technology fields. Systematic and thoroughly logical, it will appeal to practising engineers involved in the development and design of robots and cognitive machines, also researchers in Artificial Intelligence. Postgraduate students in computational neuroscience and robotics, and neuromorphic engineers will find it an exciting source of information.
